batlh choja', Will Martin quv:
=> >batlh choja', Matthew Whiteacre quv:
= You are pretty close. Basically, this is an overly polite, redundantly
=saccarine statement. Consider that {quv} is used adjectivally and {batlh} is
=used adverbally. I then translate this as "Your honor, the honorable Matthew
=Whiteacre, tell me:" or "Honorable Matthew Whiteacre, you honorably tell me:"
Well. It's intriguing to see how much reaction my moniker has provoked!
All I intended was "You tell me with honour, Mr Whiteacre". I suppose my
understanding of Klingon culture is more verbose than charghwI''s --- in
fact, 'e' vISovchu' ;) . NAME quv is how I translate Mr blah, Ms blah, Sir,
Lieutenant, Constable (especially in the mouths of hicks); and batlh is
probably a very frequent adverb in Klingon culture. At least, it is in my
writing...
I do suppose I'm about due for a change of attribution quote, though the
fact that I use it in talking to *all* my correspondents (who tend to be
Terran) justifies it somewhat for me. Unfortunately, whatever I choose, it
will have to be longer than "nuqneH, petaQ" ;)
Then again... (hehehe...)
