In Ireland it is common to say "Good luck" where in North American one
might say "Good bye"--it generally makes North Americans start and take a
look around to see _why_ luck was wished. "Are the Irish so desparately
pessimistic?"
No, they're not, they just stand in solidarity with their Klingon brothers.
