What precisely is the intent behind "Qapla'" at the end of a conversation,
that is, Success for what?
Since it's being used as a parting remark, we might be inclined to think of
it in terms of well-wishing, much like we might say "Good luck" when
parting with someone. This fits into what we know about Klingons, making
"Qapla'" an appropriate form of goodbye when one is about to go off on some
miltary mission (as one example).
And yet, perhaps it's even simpler. "Qapla'" might only be a simple
declarative, for use at the end of conversation. As we've seen, Klingon
exchanges often go from verbal to violent. So, "success" in such an
instance might refer to a successful conversation (i.e. both sides
succeeded in expressing themselves, and no one is dead as a result).
Sounds like success to me. What do you think?
