At the beginning, right before Kruge destroys the trader ship (and
Valkris with it), Valkris says to him
Qapla', bangwI' - bangwI' je'
which is
Success, my lord - and my love.
Kruge responds with
batlh Daqawlu'taH
Which is
You will be remembered with honor.
The English above is the subtitles, which happen to be right on the money
this time. A fairly moving scene, as Star Trek goes.
\Would it be redundant to say "bangwI'oy"?
"bangwI'oy" is incorrect; -oy is a type 1 suffix, whereas -wIj is a type 4.
So it'd be "bangoywI'"... roughly equivalent to "my dear love", probably in
redundancy as well as meaning. I'd say that "bangoy" in general is about
as redundant as "dearie".
\Also, how do you properly pronouce <wI'>? Like the English "we"
\or like "weh"?
Neither, actually. The vowel sound is not "ee" or "eh", but "ih" -
it's like the English "wit" but with a sharp cutoff in place of the 't'.
(In fact, the Cockney pronunciation of "wit" is probably exactly the same
as tlhIngan Hol "wI'").
