Subject: thlIngan good-byes
I recall, in another context, someone complaining about Picard
"going around and barking 'Qapla''at every Klingon he sees."
Without getting into the series and its treatment of tlhIngan,
it seems to me that 'Qapla'' (success) might be an appropriate
substitute for "good-bye" in some contexts. To wish for, or
command (as the case may be), success at the end of a conversation -
that is, conversations where an end needs to be explictly indicated -
would be in keepping with the no-nonsense, business-like basis
of the language.
