Hebrew, Phoenician etc. were written right-to-left because it's
easier for right-handed people to carve stone inscriptions from
right-to-left. Left-to-right writing began when people started to
write with ink. Again, right-handed people.
Greek Boustrephrodon (I know that's misspelt) writing is a sign
of intense confusion. And it didn't last long.
