I don't know why you would hate external modems.  My External is plugged into a
true on board 16550A UART on com2 and works great on Linux, NT, windows, dos, os/2,
OpenStep, solaris Intel, FreeBSD, and all of the other OS's that at some point have
been on my machine.  Besides you can reset it, and turn it off without rebooting
the machine, and you can tell if your machine is trying to talk over a ppp
interface just by looking at the SD light. You could also plug it into a mac
(although I wouldn't) a PDA, or any other computer made. (almost)  It is your
opinion and I'm glad you have it :) guess mine is a little different.
