libc (ie libc5) is older, and being replaced by glibc (ie libc6).
RedHat 5.0 - 5.2 use glibc.  Earlier use libc.
RedHat tries to support programs that use either library, but
it is difficult to do.

Some other distributions are stuck on libc, but will have to
switch soon or fall behind.
