Check the Hardware compatibility list on http://www.redhat.com/support

There are lots of patches for 5.1. Don't bother with the XFree86 or devel patches
initially. Wait til you know which XFree86 ones your video requires. The devel
ones are for compiling - which you won't need while installing. Get all the
others
if you can - several of them make PPP dialup setup trivially easy.

See http://www.redhat.com/mirrors.html for a source near you.

You can download onto a FAT partition under NT or 9X,
mount the FAT under Linux (if it's the same machine)
and install the upgrades right off the FAT partition!

5.2 would be a little better though.
