error with mkraid - help ?

I am running kernel 2.0.35 (RH ver 5.1) and raidtools
version 0.90.0
when running mkraid -force /dev/md0 I get the following
messages
handling MD device /dev/md0
analyzing super-block
disk 0: /dev/sda1, 8924076kB, raid superblock at 8923968kB
disk 1: /dev/sdb1, 8924144kB, raid superblock at 8924032kB
mkraid: aborted
and looking in /var/log/messages, I see
kernel: unknown md_ioctl -2146694896
Any advice appreciated
