Get the source files from
ftp://ftp.kde.org/pub/kde/stable/1.0/contrib/distribution/rpm/RedHat-5.1/i38
6/source
read the file "INSTALL-kde-rh51", that's all you need.

I would recommend that you take a look at www.windowmaker.org, is another X
manager
is very easy to install an is very nice.
