sendmail is the mail agent. Turning this off means you will not be able to
send and receive messages on your unix accounts. (though you can still get
POP mail if you have a POP client.

postgresql is a RDBMS.

smb is the LAN manager type file system which makes the Linux box look like
a windows network server.

routed is a routing deamon.- you don't need this if you are not routing
packets through your machine.
