You mis-read (misunderstood?) the question, *and* you didn't trim 
anything, including the trailers.  :((  The questioner was referring to 
EXTENDED partitions, not ext2 partitions.  :)  Of course Windows 
doesn't run on an ext2 partition.  Don't think it runs on an extended 
partition, either -- even if, <vbg>, it's formatted in FAT.  (System 
Commander can do a lot of magical stuff, but I don't think even SC can 
boot a Win9x system that's parked on an extended.)
