I just don't like the way linuxconf is laid out. It is (IMHO) highly
unintuitive. Nothing is where I expect it. The X interface is slightly
better, but the html is a real mess. The main concept that I really like
is having one tool with console, X & Web interfaces, however at the present
time this (for me) doesn't make up for its lack of functionality and clunky
interface.
I know that it is improving all the time and I hope it continues to do so,
but so long as that command heirarchy remains and support for things such
as sendmail, bind-8 and smb shares (etc..) are missing then I will not be
enticed to use it. For my money Webmin is THE tool today. It supports all
the things I need today with a clear, concise and well presented interface,
and whilst it may not be perfect (what is?) it too is evolving.
I guess my ideal tool would be Webmin with console & X interfaces (a-la
linuxconf) customised by Red Hat and shipped with RH5.3 !
