But gnu tar can be compiled and run anywhere, and should be. :-)
We used gnu tar on all our 7 different Unixes for the last 4 years, and
enjoyed
having one tar, one syntax, and everything was solid. We even built it into
solutions for customers, so we could support tar easily everywhere. If you
stick
to the common usages, gnu tar is compatible with just about any other tar,
except for some really broken ones.
