*** Hi Charlotte,

You know now what to do next time: Write every step you make down. It will
also help you repeat it if you have to.

Anyway, even if you don't know what you did, you still could give more
info than you did. Did you use the network setup from control-panel? How
did you change the hostname? What file have you edited?

If you want to change the host name, your best bet is to use the setup
uitility in control-panel. Check also the HOWTO's in /usr/doc about seting
up these kind of things. And ofcourse the Red Hat Manual about seting up a
network. Even if you're "not" on a network, you are. Internet! So go about
like you would configuring a network. The Red Hat manual will explain you
how to set up a few things. Once you've done that you'll have to make your
/etc/sysconfig/network look like this:

NETWORKING=yes
FORWARD_IPV4=false
HOSTNAME=winbuster.magic.fr --> this is mine, just put yours instead.

Remember that since you're changing host names you'll still have to make
sure to keep your ISP's one. In my case my internal domain is winbuster
and magic.fr is the domain of my ISP. Then you'll have to create a
sendmail.cf file to masquarade as your ISP's domain in order to send and
receive mails. In my case I've setup sendmail to send mail from my domain
- which is winbuster.magic.fr - as magic.fr.

As you can see, it's pritty stiff configuring if you're new to it. Have a
go, but if you're using Linux only recently, I would advice you to keep
the standard setings until you're more confortable with it. If you can't
get the system back on track, reinstall it. That's what I used to do in
the beginning. Mail if you have questions.

To understand how to generate sendmail.cf go to Chuck's site
http://www.moongroup.com/unix and follow the instructions. It's a very
well written HOWTO.

Cheers,
Zoki.
