Alrighty !!!
Thanks to the list and the people who responded to my questions about
video resolutions. I finally had to break down and get a linux book,
which is actually pretty specific to RH5.1 and not too shabby. Anyways,
I went to the the XF86Config file and uncommented the line where it
defines my video card (STB Velocity 128) to 8meg and changed modes to
1024x7?? in 24bit color. Looks nice :)
