I think this is a good idea and would help lots of first-timers. I hear
linuxconf is making life easier for them too but how about if it could do things
like set up your system for memory in excess of 64 MB or some of the other
regularly occurring problems that are raised every other day on this list.
The Halloween memos gave several pointers to things like ease of installation,
setting up X & Window Managers that make Linux 'less' of a threat to M$ than it
could be when it comes to persuading Joe Public to give Linux a try.
Though actually trying to do anything with winblows should do that;-) I have
spent a very frustrating couple of days trying to update a friends windows
system from W3.11 to W95. I lost count of the times I was required to reboot.
Plug and pray is a joke if you want to use anything slightly out of the ordinary
but one of the most annoying things was that the CD-drive I used to install W95
wasn't recognised after installation.
Installing Linix is a doddle in comparison
Sorry about the rant but I need to release some of my frustration!!
