Heya Trip, figured I'd follow-up on this for ya.  I finally got
the darn install to work from the hard drive but ... there's a
catch.  I installed 5.1 on the system, and then downloaded
the entire 5.2 i386 directory.  I created the boot and supp
disk and then ran the 5.2 install.  It worked...

I think that having the files untar to a linux file system is
what did the trick.  In other words, it would be really
helpfull if Red Hat would make their install file
system independent.

That may not actually help but I still wanted to let you know
how I got around it just in case it might.
