The DOS under W98 does not count. You have a Winmodem.
People at several computer shops have told me that *all* PCI
modems are winmodems. Trade it in
for an external modem, or an ISA modem that explicitly
says "This is not a Winmodem" or Supports DOS, OS/2, UNIX,
or Linux.
I bought one that says "This is not a Winmodem" on the box for
about $48US, complete with jumpers to set IRQ, COM port
and to disable PNP.
If anyone has ever found aPCI non-Winmodem, please
speak up.
