Thanks for all of the help regarding this LILO booting problem. The fix =
was simple: adding the line "linear" (no pun) to my lilo.conf problem =
was all it took. The winning solution was graciously submitted by Mr. =
Tony Richardson. Hope it helps others...

I'm running a single hard drive, single OS RH Linux box - LILO =
is set to boot from=20
(obviously) /dev/hda. On booting from the HD, it makes it as far =
as "LI", then....nothing.
       =20
On booting from floppy - everything is just fine.
       =20
       =20

I had a similar problem using an old Conner 1.6 gb drive. RH 5.1 =
installed itself normally but whenever I tried to boot from the hard =
drive, LILO stopped with the message "LI". Changing the CMOS drive =
settings solved the problem.
   =20
In my case, the Conner (now Western Digital) website showed two =
different settings for cylinders/heads/sectors for the drive. One was =
for MS/DOS and the other was for non-MS/DOS operating systems. (The =
label on the hard drive only showed the MS/DOS settings.) When I changed =
the CMOS drive settings to the non-MS/DOS operating settings, Linux =
booted normally.

   =20
    Hope that helps.
