Two possibilities come to mind:
a) have a look at ldconfig. In theory, ldconfig should allow you to tell
ld where to look for libraries. This would be the better approach, but
I never had to use it on my home box and on my Sun at work I can only use
option b)
b) make sure that the environment variable LD_LIBRARY_PATH includes the
directories which contain said libraries. LD_LIBRARY_PATH is the path
where ld (which is the program that takes care of loading dynamic
libraries) looks for libraries (simple, huh? ;-) ).
Another thing that just crosses my mind: If I remember correctly, there
should be a link in /usr like this: /usr/X11 -> /usr/X11R6 or similar. Mind
you, I'm *not* sure about the details and I can't check right now, as my
Linux box is at home.
HTH,
Thomas
