Of course, the problem is a little different with a _laptop_ <g>!
Based on my own experiences with older ThinkPads, I would advise very
careful attempts to lift off the keys, one by one, and clean them with a
little isopropyl alcohol on one of those foam-tipped Q-tip-like things.
Don't use real cotton Q-tips, though, cause they will shed cotton in the
worst places.
To tell the truth, it probably won't work all that well. These keyboards
mostly use little plastic cap things for return springs, and eventually
they just flat wear out. I was lucky to find a cheap used parts "donor
machine" for one of my laptops. I had cleaned it pretty well, but it had
worn-out "springs", so it took "new" springs from the donor keyboard to
really make a big improvement. Even so, it is still kinda funky, and
nothing like it used to be... but, then what is? ;-)
Pulling laptop keys is inherently risky. The place where they hook into
the keyboard is fragile, so go easy. Try to pull straight up, rather than
pry with a lever.
It is also possible that you might be able to buy a keyboard from a
Compaq repair place (IBM still offered keyboards for my old mod 500).
