From what I understand, the "2.2 ready" means that all the version of
software that the 2.2 series will need are already present (for example,
2.2 will need a different version of pppd, procps, etc...)

So if 5.2 has all of those updates, when the new kernel comes out, it will
be a quick plugin. When I installed 2.1.125 a couple of weeks ago, i
needed to update around 5-6 packages for compatibility
