I believe it will.  I use a TR-1 floppy tape drive.  Check out the docs on
ftape.  I also user the ftaper backup program which I guess uses tgz.
Either way, I got greater than 2:1 compression even leaving out some of the
doc directories.  Never saw this in a tape backup prog in MSWIN.
