I'm looking at a new computer system and it seems that many of the Linux
hardware vendors have an option for an internal Zip drive. I would guess this
is an IDE or ATAPI drive and I can only presume that there are drivers for it
(seems quite obvious). Am I correct on both counts?
I've also heard that when two devices are connected to the same IDE
controller, both devices will operate at the same speed. Since I would guess
that the Zip drive has slower transfer rates than a HDD and probably slower
than a 32x CD-ROM drive, will putting an internal Zip drive into the system
then hinder the performance of at least one of the other IDE devices?
I guess one could put the CD-ROM drive and the HDD on the same controller, but
that would be the same problem.
I'm not much into the nutz and boltz of PC-architecture, so pardon my
ignorance.
Thanks for any and all help.

No, my friend, the way to have good and safe government, is not to trust it
all to one, but to divide it among the many, distributing to every one exactly
the functions he is competent to. It is by dividing and subdividing these
republics from the national one down through all its subordinations, until it
ends in the administration of every man's farm by himself; by placing under
every one what his own eye may superintend, that all will be done for the
best.
