I had a 3C905B also, and when I tried installing the latest 59x driver, the
boot process started locking up at the point where it loads the network
driver.

The vendor that I bought the system from swears up and down that they had it
working properly in their shop with the CD drivers, otherwise they wouldn't
have shipped it. It supposedly worked for an entire week of burn-in, as
well. But when I got it set up and turned it on, it didn't work. I finally
called them and made them find me an old 3C905 and ship it to me.

in a nutshell, getting the 905B to operate under Linux is tricky, and just
because you get it working once doesn't mean that it will CONTINUE to work
afterwards.

I would recommend you go with an older 905, if you can find one. If not, I
would recommend settling for a 10mbps connection and put a 3C590 in it,
instead.
