Hi,
I've been playing remote sys admin for my brother who is at college,
having built and setup a RHL box for him. I got him an Epson Stylus 800
printer because it appeared to be a decent printer and it was supported by
RHL 5.1. He was home a few weekends ago and took it back and I walked him
through the setup steps. However, he's got a bit of a problem (and I
quote from an email he sent me):
Kevin,
All seems well with the printer except for one thing. Right now, a page
takes about 5 minutes to completely print. The printer prints a line
and waits about 10 seconds until it prints the next line. Can you
remedy this problem, what's the problem, or can you tell me what to
check or change to fix the problem?
Thanks,
Joel
At this point, not being there, I don't know if I can isolate the problem
as being hardware or software and I was wondering if anyone on the list
can help me out. According to specs for that printer, it has an IEEE1284
Bi-directional Parallel interface and I thought I bought the proper cable
for that. Before I run around troubleshooting hardware, I would like to
know if there's a known software glitch with RedHat's printer drivers.
This is a system running RHL 5.1 with all the latest updates.
Thanks for any help!
Kevin
