Install all the upgrades  for the packages you are using, for
your Redhat version.  Read ww.redhat.com/errata for instructions
- it is concise and to the point, and you can believe it.

This is the recommended way, and it works fine for me.
It actually made a big improvement.

It will solve your specific problem.

wget is in on the RH5.1 CD in RedHat/RPMS/wget-1.5.0-2.i386.rpm
wget is an efficient way to download a collection of files, like the updates.
