I have to disagree....traditionally user data is held in a home partition
to separate it from your root partition. This way users cannot fill up the
root partition. Also, var is for logging (among other things) and I like
to separate logs from the root disk so a runaway log fills /var and not
/. I would create a larger /home and put user data there.
Only my humble opinion.
