Yeap, video card, bus mastering, or bad (buggy) video driver (X client)
problem.

Rarely the latter, more often the first...

If you have an AGP card change the "write combining" and the AGP memory
address aperture size in your CMOS/BIOS settings... this will sometimes cure
it...
