(Sorry this is a couple days late.)

I too tried that disk set and it allowed me to install RH5.1 but not boot
it. So I was in the same boat. Advanced System Labs (www.aslab.com) has
built a custom RH5.1 boot disk available at:

    ftp://ftp.aslab.com/support/boot_images/boot.adaptec

This disk, unlike the "other" RH5.1 boot disk that will let you install the
OS, will actually let you boot your machine. At the LILO: prompt, you'd
want to type:

boot linux root=/dev/sdX (X is the root partition)

And you'll be booted. Once booted, you can install the updated kernel RPM's
you downloaded and then be sure to point LILO to the new kernel and
reinstall LILO. This is how I did it anyway.

Good luck!
