I don't know if anyone else has seen this. I have four Linux boxen. Three
of them have Cirrus Logic GD5446 chipset video cards in them. There is one
Diamond Stealth 64 Video 2000 card in the other. These machines have a
strange problem, whenever there is any hard drive access or mouse movement
in X, the video flickers. Specifically, the screen varies between different
shades of dark and light. This is a VERY subtle effect, so I haven't really
been bothered by it. It doesn't seem to matter which Window Manager I use.
I was wondering if the video cards are the culprits. I had an old 486 using
a Trident chipset that never had this problem. I also wondered if it was
the power supply, but one of these systems has an ATX 250W PS. Has anyone
elses ever seen this? Any suggestions?

Thanks,
G. Lenzer

PS-It also seems to be tied in with the PS fan on each system. This only
happens when I run Linux; during heavy processing (compiling) the PS fan
seems to make a different sound! Wot the hell is this?
