I tried the same thing as well, I suspect that internic's server have
actually answered every query, but just for some reason, the fwhois just
won't display the result. On other machines I've tried on, they gave
expected result on every single query, and i think at least it prove
internic isn't that busy at all.

I was getting the same results, and like you i tried a variety of other
shells i have on other machines, which worked. I simply repeated the
query once or twice more and finally for rs.internic.net to respond. Not
sure what the REAL reason/answer is...could be internic's DB?!?!?
