I have a computer on which I am trying to install RHL 5.1; I have
downloaded and installed all the updates from the FTP site. The
stock kernel boots just fine, but when I configure and recompile
the kernel (2.0.34 OR 2.0.35-2) the system hangs on reboot when
it tells me it mounted the root filesystem as read-only. What
gives? I'm 99% positive that it's not a misconfigured kernel as
I have recompiled and installed new kernels more times than I can
count on countless machines--I know the procedure and I have
never had a problem with it.
I may be wrong. Maybe I did do something weird. But I've tried
several times and nothing seems to work. Can someone give me
some pointers as to how to diagnose/fix this problem?
Thanks!
Kevin
