Always be root when you run control-pannel if you want to see
all the choices and have everything work.

Some things may work as an ordinary user in control-pannel, but
I have experienced that many do not.

Ordinary users can make a ppp connection by typing /sbin/ifup ppp0
you are running kerneld (check with ntsysv) and if you set up
the ppp0 using ONLY netcfg or linuxconf.

If users cannot use /sbin/ifup ppp0 successfully, use
netcfg to remove all ppp connections, and then add it again.
It worked for me.

Ordinary users cannot run insmod ppp directly.
Kerneld will do that automatically when they run /sbin/ifup ppp0.
