1) The game or application generates sounds by manipulating the D/A or sound
generator chips via the sound drivers. These are either low level calls to
modules in the OS or direct writes to the device itself....
So, yes the sounds play at the Linux box... I have a similiar setup with my
Linux box connected to a large stereo system. I X windows into the Linux
machine and play CD's and music on the Linux machine (accross the room).
2) What would you be "piping". If an application is writing directly to the
audio device you'ld have to write a special IP driver to act like your sound
card (which you would not need in the Linux box anymore...) and send the
packets to your local machine which in turn would require a server program
to convert the stream back to audio....
hey wait a second... this sounds like.... duh... what realaudio does...
So, unless someone writes an internet audio based game, the answer is no.
