Thanks, very helpful.  But this seems to be a problem that is wired
solidly into the Berkeley-style printing subsystem.  I assume that we
won't be seeing SysV-style printing in Linux any time soon, so what's
the best way for Joe Linuxuser to protect his system from this
exploit?  (I provide print services for a small home network using
Samba.  Someday, I'll have more Linux machines on this network, and
they'll want to print through this machine too...)

While we are on the topic of Rootshell, does anyone here know of any
progress on the ssh hack that they experienced the other day?
