there is a mini howto on this. basically, when I did this I ended up
doing it pretty much by mistake. install LILO in the MBR, then took a
copy of it to disk. this 512(?) byte file gets copied to the NT partition
and referenced from boot.ini

mine looks like this:
[root@sundance /mnt]# cat boot.ini
[boot loader]
timeout=5
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Windows NT Workstation Version
4.00"
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Windows NT Workstation Version
4.00 [VGA mode]" /basevideo /sos
c:\linux.mbr="LILO"

--- those lines starting with multi(0) wrap around...
