Hi All:
Well, 3-4 months ago, my ISP moved to V.90 modems. Okay, so what?
Well, up till then I was able to connect very easily with my USR 56K
sportster using netcfg or usernet. Then with the change I was not able
to establish a PPP connection, though the modems did make a connection.
What I got was the modem hung and the send/recv lights flashed forever.
So I thought the problem was the netcfg/usernet programs. Well, sure
enough, if I manually connect using minicom and then hand start the PPP
daemon, PPP works fine. Then I thought, well, maybe I need to have a V.90
modem too. So, I upgraded the sportster over the net, via NT and tested it
and it worked fine. Moved it over to my Linux box and using netcfg/usernet
I got the same old bad behavior. However, manually starting PPP the modem
works fine and even connects at 37300.
So, my question is: Has anybody run into this? If so, how did you fix it?
Can you send me your fixes?
