To let those on the list know, I found my problem, and it might help
some one else too.
I checked the settings in MSIE, since connecting to
www.sspl.net.au wasn't a probelm from the linux box it kind of
pointed to a problem with the 95 box.
MSIE was/is setup to connect to the net via my ISP's proxy server.
Clicking on settings, I saw that there is an option that allows you
to tell it not to use the proxy server for the following addresses.
adding www.sspl.net.au fixed the problems.
I'm now connecting to www.sspl.net.au.
