minicom misbehaves

I have a PPP server with five modems on a Cyclades card, running RedHat
5.1. I'm trying to use Minicom to dial out on an unused modem, and it
works fine until I hang up the phone, at which time _all_ of the modems
are being reset in a rather disorderly manner; any ppp sessions running
on other lines are interrupted, and the "client" (myself at the moment)
has to disconnect manually and reconnect. The client's modem doesn't
even hang up.

Is this a common occurrance (yeah, right)? Does anyone know what to do
about it?
