Hello -
I think I am going crazy - still trying to install Xemacs on Red Hat v5.1.
I have spent forever on this problem now and am getting nowhere. Any
further help would be greatly appreciated! Here are the steps I have
taken:
logged on as root
ran: rpm -ivh libjpeg-6b-7.src.rpm
ran: ldconfig
ran: rpm -ivh xemacs-20.4-4.i386.rpm
Then I get this:
failed dependencies:
libjpeg.so.62 is needed by xemacs-20.4-4
I am not sure what else to do. When I check as suggested, I get this:
[root@interserv27 lib]# ls -la libj*
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 159892 May 7 22:18 libjpeg.a
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 16 Aug 1 09:07 libjpeg.so ->
libjpeg.so.6.0.1
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 16 Aug 1 09:07 libjpeg.so.6 ->
libjpeg.so.6.0.1
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 137136 May 7 22:18 libjpeg.so.6.0.1
Thanks,
Justin

Did you run 'ldconfig' once you installed the new lib also check that
you have in /usr/lib the links:
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 17 Jul 15 12:25 libjpeg.so ->
libjpeg.so.62.0.0
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 17 Jul 15 12:27 libjpeg.so.62 ->
libjpeg.so.62.0.0
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 136927 Aug 3 16:21 libjpeg.so.62.0.0
And of course check in /etc/ld.so.conf that there is a line:
usr/lib
