The "guy" is right here... As I said then and I'll reiterate now, I
(me personally) have not had this problem. I've done hardware upgrades
with Windows 3.1, OS/2 and Linux on board and have had no _apparent_
problems. I have done a few (admittedly) upgrades of 486 Winblows 95
machines to pentium machines and have had no _apparent_ problems but
I have not checked low level drivers. The machines worked and the owners
have not come back to me and complained of these sorts of problems.

I routinely turn off Plug 'n Play on every machine that I build - chiefly
because I put on NT/OS2/Linux and they don't like Plug 'n Play. I have
not done any pentium to pentium II upgrades of this kind so I cannot
address this. If someone wants to send me hardware to try this out
and verify that Jose is right, as he is so kind to remind us, I would be
happy to try this out and give my observations.

Jose has demonstrated to me that he has a great deal more experience in
Winblows 95/98 upgrade issues than I do. I'm very thankful that I don't
deal with those operating systems much myself :-) so defer to him in these
matters. If these issues come up in OS/2 or NT then I would be happy to
give you my opinions and experiences. Feel free to email me - no need to
waste further list bandwidth.

From "the guy"
