The Gui based tools allow you to do just that...

There is an entry for the "time server". You just enter the IP of the public
time server you wish to use and Linux will sync to it several times a day...

No more setting system clocks...

BTW: I'm using a dialup (cable modem hybrid) with Diald. I let Linux bring
the link up during the night (if it is down, to get the time).
