You'd think that someone with a near perfect SAT would
know this one (just kidding Cimarron)...

Inside your xdm session, su to root, edit /etc/inittab and
change the default runlevel to 3.

Or su and say telinit,

Or reboot,

It depends on how you started xdm initially.
