Hello there,
I guess that you have set your machine up with networking and have given it
the name "my.domain.net". That is not right unless you are actually a part of
the real (yes there is one) domain called "domain.net"
What is happening is the root servers (a.root-servers.net, b.root-servers.net
and so on) are being asked about my.domain.net but the name servers for
domain.net do not know anything about my.domain.net
If you are running a machine (or small network) that does not have a real domain
name registered, then you should probably stay away from running named, and
just use the resolver files instead: -
in /etc/hosts put the ip number and name of each machine on your network;
set the nameserver operation to use "files, dns" so that it looks in the file
before it asks nameservers;
I'm sorry but I dont know how to run these in the linuxconf, as I have just started
with RedHat, but I have been running over 200 domains for well over 2 years now.
For more information about nameserver operation, see the O'reilly book called
"DNS and BIND" by Albitz and Liu.
Hope this helps,
