unable to login with X remote

Hello,
I have switched to run level 5 on my linux box
and then returned to my own PC and started XWin32
I get a login window - great!
But ... typing username and password fails to get me
in, all I get is 'login failed'
Where do I set permissions for me (or other users)
to get access using X ?
