Hi,
I'm new to Red Hat but not to Linux and I'm trying to setup RH5.1 to =
replace Slackware3.3 but have quickly found some stumbling blocks.
1) I can't telnet as root. I can telnet as a different user, then su.
2) I'd like to enable HTTP linuxconf but linuxconf doesn't match the =
documentation online. Specifically, I never see a dialog box labelled =
"Status of the system'' as 1.2.11 of the online docs say I should. =
/etc/conf.linuxconf shows the changes I've made but http://<myhost>:98/ =
fails and I'm pretty sure I have the configuration right. Also, I can't =
telnet to port 98 so I figure it's not working.
3) Samba is installed but these rc scripts are foreign to me and neither =
nmbd nor smbd appear in the process list.
4) Startx fails because it can't find any valid modes. I set it to =
1024x768x256 which worked fine on this hardware under windoze.

TIA for any pointers
