it's always better to have /home and /tmp on
a separate partition as any ordinary users have
write permissions in these directories.
imagine running sctipt like the following by an
ordinary user in /tmp or /home.
while (:)
do
mkdir abc
cd abc
done
if /tmp or /home wouldn't be mounted on separate partitions,
i guess you might be in serious trouble.
